Themes and
style:
Using
the traditional medium of oil on wood, Araujo creates works associated with the
history of painting, photography, publications, catalogues, magazines,
postcards and posters.
Araujo pays tribute to the history of art while also
considering what remains of the essence, texture, medium and argument of a work
once it has been reproduced. For the 9th Sharjah Biennial he presented a series
of oil painting appropriations of reproductions and photographs taken from
architectural books that offered images of prominent buildings he had visited
over the years.
